I work to the charging principles established by the Chartered Institute of Editors and Proofreaders.
As a general guide, my charges are:
Minimum charge for services is generally £150, however, if you have a small job I am negotiable.
All services include a 45 minute telephone call/long zoom meeting.
£11 per 1000 words, or 1.1 pence per word
This service is for those whose writing is of a high standard
but who require proofreading to get to the appropriate academic standard.
Proofreading AND editing
£16 per 1000 words, or 1.6 pence per word
This service is for those who require intensive proofreading and editing.
Express proofreading: 24 hour service
£21 per 1000 words, or 2.1 pence per word. I can work on 5, 000 words per 24 hours.
As a small business, I provide a more personal service than a lot of the big editing companies out there, especially the ones where everything is submitted electronically.
If I'm proofreading and/or editing I can work in a number of ways to support clients' needs. If working on Word, I can use tracked changes, and send to you to go through and accept. I can work on a PDF using notes and comments, or I can work with the old fashioned 'query form' where I create a list of queries related to page numbers, lines, sections, and make recommendations and suggestions on this for the client to make on the master document. It's really about what suits you.
If I'm writing copy/content I will collect as much information as I can about you, from you, and then, if necessary will do some desk research based on your needs. Once I have all of the information we can have a conversation and I will get to work.
I can quickly give an estimated time of completion for clients based on client requirements and always deliver on time.
I will ask for a sample if proofreading/editing and will gather all required information before giving a quote. I adhere to the Chartered Institute of Editors and Proofreader's pricing recommendations which can be viewed here.
Ongoing contact with clients
I'm always available for a chat, and will give clients regular updates on the progress of work. I will also seek clarification if needed as soon as possible.
I am detail oriented by nature and pay attention to the smallest factors. As an example, at the beginning of 2020 I undertook some online training with Harvard University, and was the only person to notice that there was a small but important error in one of their assessment documents.
As a writer and author myself, I know how important your material is to you. As a PhD, I had to write and proofread a 100, 000 word document to a high standard. As researcher for twenty years I can quickly absorb and synthesise written text .
